Dr. Babasaheb R Desai is a veteran Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Belgaum, Karnataka. He retired as Professor and Head of Department (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) after 37 years as a teacher at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) in Belgaum. During his career, he was Examiner and Guide for many MD and Ph.D students. Dr. Desai established various subspecialities, particularly the Assisted Reproduction Centre at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belgaum. He also headed the Magnetic Resonance Research Centre (MRRC) at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

Dr. BR Desai was a founder executive committee member of the Karnataka State Obstetric and Gynaecology Association and served as its President in 2012-13. Dr. Desai has been involved in numerous research projects of the ICMR and other bodies. He has several publications to his name in national and international journals. He is currently attached to the Belgaum Fertility Centre (Ashok Hospital), where he is also involved in the Institute for Women's Health & Research.
